Detailed treatment guide

Solid Tumor Chemotherapy

Solid tumors arise in organs or other body tissues and include many different cancer types. Chemotherapy may be one part of treatment for selected solid tumors, but the appropriate regimen depends on the exact cancer and its clinical characteristics.

Follow-up based on the individual plan

Examples of solid tumors

Solid tumors include cancers such as breast, lung, stomach, head and neck and many others. Each cancer has its own diagnostic and treatment pathways, so information about one tumor type should not automatically be applied to another.

Where chemotherapy fits

Chemotherapy may be used before another treatment, after a primary treatment, together with other therapies, or to control disease depending on the clinical situation. The treatment intent and regimen are determined by the treating team.

Individualized regimen selection

Selection can depend on pathology, stage, biomarkers where relevant, previous treatment, other medical conditions and the expected balance between benefit and treatment-related risks.

Monitoring during treatment

The clinical team may monitor blood counts, organ function, symptoms and treatment response as appropriate for the medicines being used. The schedule and tests vary by regimen.
