Detailed treatment guide

Lymphoma & Multiple Myeloma

Lymphoma is a group of cancers that begin in cells of the lymph system. Multiple myeloma is a cancer of abnormal plasma cells. These conditions contain different subtypes, so treatment cannot be determined from the broad disease name alone.

Monitoring during treatment when applicable
Follow-up based on the individual plan

Understanding lymphoma

The two broad lymphoma categories are Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma itself contains many different subtypes, and treatment can vary according to the specific disease.

Understanding multiple myeloma

Multiple myeloma develops from abnormal plasma cells. Evaluation and treatment planning may consider disease characteristics, symptoms, laboratory findings, imaging and the patient's overall health and fitness.

Treatment approaches

Depending on the exact condition, treatment may involve chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, radiation therapy, stem cell transplant or observation in selected circumstances. The treating specialist determines which options are appropriate.

Follow-up

Blood tests, imaging or other assessments may be used to monitor disease and treatment response. The frequency and type of follow-up are individualized to the condition and treatment plan.
